Coffee Judging at RAS Fine Food Awards 2009
I was a privilege to be asked to be a judge at this year's Sydney RAS Easter Show Fine Food Coffee Awards. I was on a panel with several other coffee industry indentities who all brought a different persective to the judging process. It was also lovely to meet up with a few fellow coffee roasters from around Australia and swap a few yarns! I was asked to judge on the espresso (short black) category and the standard varied from excellent to just passable. Mostly however the standard was quite good and its great to see that the quality of coffee in Australia is constantly improving. For me it was a great privilage to judge and I thank Grahame & Elizabeth from Sydney RAS for inviting me to contribute! For all the awards results click here
. Of course, as I was a judge Bay Coffee was not allowed to enter our coffees into the competition. Cheers, David.
New Coffees At Bay
I have a few interesting new coffees for you all to try at the web store. Firstly, we have brought back the Ethiopia Limu, a superb washed coffee, Limu grows to the South-West of Ethiopia between 3600-6200 ft. Limu coffee is renowned for its good cup, sweet, spicy/wine flavour and balanced body. Secondly, having been cynical about Australian coffees to date I have been converted by the Australian Dimbulah coffee we have just trialled. It is a high quality estate graded coffee. It displays a mild, sweet rich chocolate body with low acidity, great for milk based espresso & plungers. Lastly, our Guatemala Blend
now contains an organically grown SHB coffee which I believe has added to the depth of the blend profile. Why not try it for youself and see!
Price Rise For Bodum & Bialetti Products
Prices have gone up 20% on Bialetti & about 15% on Bodum products in the last month due to the collapse of the Aussie dollar on new shipments. We still have current stock at the old prices but I will have to put the prices up when new stock arrives post Easter. So if you have to renew your old pot or just want to buy some gifts in advance, now is definitely the time to get in and beat the price rise! Click here for our webstore.
